HURDLES RACES
Hurdles races involve at least seven hurdles to be cleared. These seven hurdles are identical, with each being 1.10 metres in height.

STEEPLECHASE RACES
This discipline features different obstacles (fences and ditches) throughout the course. Steeplechase obstacles are higher and more difficult to clear than the fences in hurdles races. They vary from one race to another and from one racetrack to another.

THE MOST FEARED OBSTACLES:

Rail Ditch and Fence
A record-sized obstacle that will sort out the winners from the losers!
This is the most feared obstacle on the course due to its incredible size.
The horses have to jump five metres in distance and 1.70 metres above ground to cross this combination of an enormous rail, a large ditch and a thick fence.
It comes towards the end of the course and is known as the Judge, as it often decides the outcome of the race.

Grandstand River
An incredible eight-metre jump that has to be crossed twice.
This obstacle is located just in front of the stand and features a fence which hides a water obstacle that means that the horses have to clear an eight-metre jump! What makes “la Rivière des Tribunes”, as it is known in French, even more daunting is that it has to be crossed twice during the Grand Steeplechase de Paris!
